Juan was born in Brooklyn, New York of Puerto Rican parents. At the age of 4 his mom bought him a set of drums and it was then that he became interested in percussion. "From the moment I picked up those drumsticks I never put them down". At 18 he dedicated himself seriously to studying Afro-Caribbean music. Through his studies, Juan has become familiar with many different types of African rhythms, those of which he incorporates into his playing. He studies percussion at The Harbor Conservatory of Music. Juan is the newest member of Soulsa.
