Born in Puerto Rico of Dominican parents, Alberto was raised in Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic before migrating to New York at the age of 10. He grew up listening to different varities of music by way of his father, a fan of American pop radio. "In my house we heard everything; merengue, spanish pop and even The Beatles, who are responsible for me wanting to learn how to play guitar and sing. At 18 Alberto managed to save enough money for an electric guitar and soon after formed a rock band.
After a few years as a rock musician he expanded his musical horizons and took an interest in latin music.

The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Héctor Lavoe, Beny Moré, Oscar D'León,
Stevie Ray Vaughn, Bad Brains & Bob Marley.
